AI Jam: Vibe Coding with OpenSpec (From Idea to App)

7:00 PM to 8:30 PM MDT · Nicholls Family Library (Calgary Public Library), 1421 33 Street SW, Calgary (inside Westbrook LRT Station, Rosscarrock)

Vibe coding is changing who gets to build software, but how do you turn a rough idea into a real application without a developer background? And how do you stop your AI assistant from running off the rails once the code starts flowing? Welcome to the first AI Jam! Join Kevin Kaminski as he shows how specification-driven development with OpenSpec keeps AI coding on track, from raw idea to working app, with little to no developer knowledge required. We'll explore turning an idea into a clear, AI-friendly spec, vibe coding with GitHub Copilot as your pair programmer, using the spec as guardrails (so you get what you actually asked for), and taking an idea all the way to an application. Heads-up: this session gets technical at points; a basic understanding of GitHub Copilot and GitHub will help you get the most out of it. Who should come: non-developers with ideas, curious beginners, aspiring vibe coders, Copilot users, and anyone who wants AI to build what they actually meant. Bring a laptop, and bring an idea! In-person only, no online option. Resources: OpenSpec at openspec.dev and github.com/Fission-AI/OpenSpec.

Microsoft Global Hackathon 2026 Kickoff: Build "Windows App for Linux"

7:00 PM to 8:30 PM MDT · Nichols Family Library (Calgary Public Library), 1421 33 Street SW, Calgary (inside Westbrook LRT Station, Rosscarrock), or online via Microsoft Teams

The Microsoft Global Hackathon returns with an ambitious build: Windows App for Linux, a native Linux desktop client for Windows 365 Cloud PCs and Azure Virtual Desktop. The spec targets C#/.NET on Linux with MSAL.NET for Entra ID auth, Avalonia for the UI, and FreeRDP for native connections. The kickoff covers how to register and join the hackathon, the project architecture, and where help is needed, then teams form to start hacking in person or online. There is a role for every skill set: C#/.NET, UI, networking, cloud, AI-assisted coding, docs, and testing. Developers of any stack, Linux users, Windows and cloud pros, and students are welcome.
